Literature Text

So long ago,
it fell apart.
And people moved on,
shuffling their feet amongst the fog.
Life became a dreary deed,
and we were marked as 'unknown'.
They all forgot.

What it's like to live,
what it's like to die.
What it's like to fight.
They lost their will,
they lost their war.
Faded did the scars.

So long ago,
we fell apart.
And I,
I moved on.
You stayed in the past,
an unmoving part of friendship.
You dragged on my mind,
but stayed behind.
And still I never forgot.

What it's like to live,
what it's like to die.
What it's like to fight.
I kept my will,
I won my war.
But never faded, not the scars.
Meaning:
More or less, this is about how society as a whole will often forget the more important things when an entire system collapses, but a person often won't, even when they lose something simple.

Perspective:
This doesn't really have much of a personal connection. It's just an idea that I had.

Inspiration:
I heard this commercial (I think it was about the army?) in which one of the actors said "they all forgot" which then gave me the idea to write this :)
